Bloemendal Estate Malbec 2020

There are more than 120 synonyms for the red Malbec grape, which shows how widespread and old this grape variety is. In the Bloemendal wine state, not far from Cape Town, one of the coldest wine-growing regions in South Africa, it is hand-picked from 16-year-old vines on the main slope of the Tierberg mountain range. After 48 hours in open fermenters, the grapes spend 18 months in oak barrels for malolactic fermentation, which regulates the acidity, before they have reached sufficient maturity for bottling. Bloemendal's dynamic winemaker Andri Hanekom can count on the best conditions for his wines, yet the passionate perfectionist only selects around 10% of the grapes from his own vineyards, that's how high his standards are! The result proves that he has done everything right.

This dry, full-bodied red wine offers a deep purple, reminiscent of the incomparable colours of a South African sunset, with aromas of plum, cigar box, cassis and butterscotch that continue on the palate and are supported by well-integrated tannins and a long finish.
