Wines from South Africa by Lomond

The renowned Lomond wine estate is located near the southernmost tip of Africa at Cape Aghulas, where the Indian Ocean and the Atlantic Ocean meet. The proximity to the sea, which is within sight, makes Lomond an ideal place for full-bodied grapes to thrive.

The world's best wines and a landscape

As there is always a cool breeze blowing over to the vineyards, the vines can ripen long and intensively and develop their full flavour.

The grapes find further ideal conditions in the 18 different types of soil found on the slopes of the Ben Lomond mountain in the Uilenkraal Valley. They produce wines with a wide repertoire of characteristic flavour profiles.

It is not for nothing that Lomond is one of the best wine-growing regions in the world. The perfect combination of an optimal climate and varied, fertile soils are conditions that leave nothing to be desired. However, this alone would not suffice for the outstanding quality of Lomond's wines. The careful harvesting and processing of the grapes are also essential factors for the unmistakable flavour of all the wines, many of which have already received prestigious awards.

It's not just Lomond's wines that are grateful for the special features of the climate and landscape. You can also recharge your batteries here. There is plenty to discover and relax around Lomond. Take a trip to the Cape of Storms and feel the powerful forces of nature at the southernmost tip of Africa, where two oceans meet.

The area also has plenty to offer in terms of sightseeing. Enjoy the view from the vineyards. Visit the historic Cape Aghulas lighthouse or the shipwrecks and draw new strength from the raging waves of the sea. How about a stroll through the fishing village of Gansbaai? Picturesque towns and breathtaking landscapes await you.

The vegetation around Lomond is also unique. The winery is located in the Walker Bay Fynbos Conservancy, an idyllic nature reserve that is home to a wide variety of protected landscapes and plants such as coastal and mountain fynbos, the mystical Milkwood Forest and various wetlands.

The Lomond winery is also committed to nature conservation

Lomond not only stands for first-class wines that are conquering the world, but is also a household name among conservationists. It is the first South African winery to support an international nature conservation organisation in order to preserve the rich vegetation of the Cape Aghulas.

Lomond's vegetation is as diverse as the grapes that are grown there. The varieties that find their perfect terroir in the climate and soil have been carefully selected. These grapes include Merlot, Sauvignon Blanc, Shiraz, Sémillon, Nouvelle, Cabernet Sauvignon, Pinot Noir, Mourvedre and Viognier.

Thanks to the cool sea breezes coming from the south-east and south-west, the vines never get too hot in summer. The vegetation and the surrounding hills filter the salty sea air. Harvesting and processing are very gentle and are characterised by a great love of wine and the beautiful natural surroundings. We at Kapvinum are delighted to be able to present the result of ideal climatic conditions and the passion that Lomond's winegrowers show for their wines in our range.
