Like white wines, rosé wines are also popular summer wines. Well chilled, they go perfectly with a mild summer evening on the terrace, but also with summery dishes such as light salads, fish or white meat.

As it is also made from red grapes, rosé is usually grown and produced in the same places as red wine. It only has a low acidity and is therefore also perfect as an aperitif.
Rosé wines from South Africa require a lot of experience from the winemaker. Well-known and classic noble grapes are therefore often used in the production process. The popularity of rosés continues to grow, which is why more and more winemakers are trying their hand at this light, summery drink.
The unmistakable pink to light red colour of rosé wines is created because the grapes are only left in the mash for a short time and are in contact with the deep red or purple-bluish skin of the grapes for a precisely coordinated, short period of time. The longer the contact with the grape skins, the darker the colour of the wine.
The colour palette on the rosé wine shelf ranges from light salmon to cherry red. However, the colour hardly says anything about the intensity of flavour. However, pressing these wines from red and blue grapes is a real art.
More and more rosé wines are also being produced in South Africa, joining the long tradition of wine production in the Cape. Rosés from South Africa are characterised by their lively and fruity taste. The range of South African winegrowers includes fruity and full-bodied rosé wines. The fruitier wines have a flavour reminiscent of red summer fruits. The Pinotage Rosé from the Rosendal wine estate, for example, conjures up thoughts of raspberries, sweet candy floss and ripe strawberries. The Hillcrest Cabernet Sauvignon also contains notes of strawberries and peaches, but is less sweet and has a floral character. Beautiful salmon pink colour, with notes of strawberries, peaches and red berries, complemented by a hint of floral character: This is the Waterlily Shiraz Rosé from Bloemendal. This rosé wine is low in alcohol and balanced in acidity, making it an ideal daytime wine to energise and uplift. The Lomond Rosé seduces with its delicious flavours of strawberries, cherries, rose petals and melon, while the Klein Roosboom with its fruity, spicy taste of raspberry, strawberry and cream is reminiscent of a day at Wimbledon. The Klein Welmoed winery enchants the palate with its Foothills Dry Rosé and the fruity flavours of the Wildehurst Velo create a wonderful interplay with its French touch.
All these wines have an intense yet refreshing flavour.
