Durbanville with its interesting surroundings and many excellent wineries

Durbanville is part of the metropolitan municipality of Cape Town and is located in the Tygerberg district. With a population of just under 55,000, Durbanville is a rural suburb on the northern edge of Cape Town. Durbanville Wine Valley is one of the oldest wine regions in the Cape and is home to well-known wine estates such as De Grendel, Durbanville Hills, Bloemendal, Diemersdal and D'Aria.

The southerly easterly wind from the Atlantic Ocean leads to cooler climatic conditions and is ideal for the production of top quality grapes. This gives South African white wines in particular their fruity elegance.

Exclusive boutique wineries on the Tygerberg

The 160-hectare vineyards of the family-run Klein Roosboom wine farm are lovingly tended. The grapes are picked by hand and the surplus grapes are sold to neighbouring large wine estates that do not have sufficient capacity themselves. The passion of the de Villiers family results in award-winning wines and good working conditions for employees who have enjoyed working for Klein Roosboom for years.

The so-called "Tastingroom", the wine tasting room, has been lovingly remodelled and transformed into charming, cosy little caves. Here you can relax and enjoy the South African wines and the South African Brut MCC. You can round off your wine tasting with cheese and charcuterie platters, fresh farmhouse bread and, of course, sweets.

Hillcrest Estatelocated in the Tygerberg hills, is also a boutique winery that produces equal proportions of red and white wine. Many varieties of Hillcrest wines are regularly awarded 4-star Platter ratings and are honoured with silver and bronze medals every year. The biggest success was winning the Grand Roche Trophy for the best Merlot in 2007. The Hillcrest growing area consists of many different types of soil that produce distinctive fruit.

The good, multi-award-winning olive oil from Hillcrest

Good South African olive oil is made from good olives! That's why Hillcrest attaches great importance to the sun and good soil when growing its olives. You can taste this in every drop of the delicious oil.
On the western slopes of the Hillcrest Estate, olives grow on over 2000 trees in the South African sun. Mainly Mission, Frantoio and Kalamata varieties are grown there and processed into oil.
The sea air gives them a particularly peppery flavour. This naturally gives the olive oil a spicy and strong flavour with a peppery note. See for yourself in our shop.

Urban Wines, a real alternative to the numerous wineries

The locality of Durbanville was renamed D'Urban in 1836 in honour of Benjamin D'Urban. The locality has borne its current name since June 1882. Lisa thus founded the somewhat different
wine business with a wine tasting room called Urban Wines.

At Urban Wines you can taste wines, enjoy good food, go shopping and take part in very special weekly tastings. Experience Urban Wines and the team behind it: it's all about friends, community and a good time. Founder Lisa tests all the wines in advance and visits the boutique wineries personally to see the conditions on site and judge the quality for herself. If you're not a wine lover, you can also try South African beer, spirits or enjoy a coffee here.
