KARDOUW the Corridor Cinsault 2019

In recent years, the "Cinsault" - or "Cinsault" - fan community has grown steadily and South Africa has produced some outstanding Cinsault red wines. This includes the Kardouw winery, whose Cinsault really impressed us. Grettchen is the wife of the citrus farmer  Gerrit and together the two of them produce Cardouw Wines against the backdrop of the wild, unspoilt landscape around the Cederberg mountain range, two fine and very exclusive wines. Where once the indigenous people, the Khoikhoi and San built their first small farms and painted their history on the walls of caves, Grettchen and her husband now select crops from the slopes of the Piekenierskloof the grapes for their limited bottlings, Grenache and Cinsault.

Here, not only love for wine flows into the bottles, but also honest manual labour. The 25-year-old vines are not additionally irrigated and struggle bravely through the long, hot South African summers, with only the rich soil providing moisture. The result is small, intensely flavoured grapes with fruity aromas of cherries, ripe strawberries and redcurrants, complemented by spicy notes of black pepper.

The "Kardouw the Corridor Cinsault 2019" is a fruity red wine that pairs very well with stronger dishes and cheese platters. Incidentally, the labels of Kardouw wines are small works of art.
