Passion for South Africa's top wines

A small, fine and highly exclusive wine trade based in Velbert, the best connections to the top of the African continent and a great deal of personal passion: that is KAPVINUM.

The name says it all

As passionate lovers of the finest grapes, the KAPVINUM team focuses on the finest boutique wineries in South Africa, which produce impressive top-quality wines in South Africa's favourable climate with a great deal of expertise and craftsmanship - but unfortunately rarely export them. The bureaucratic effort required is often too great and too daunting. As a result, genuine South African high-quality wines often remain in the country itself, while wine lovers in this country have to make do with the medium quality segment. To change this, Monika Schmitz-Rohwedder, owner of KAPVINUM, invests a lot of time and effort in getting to know the winegrowers and owners of the wine estates personally.

South African premium wines for the discerning connoisseur

The success of the KAPVINUM business model is therefore based on trusting, often friendly relationships, as she explains: "We have decades of friendly relationships with some of our producers. Thanks to this close personal contact, we also know our products and their backgrounds and stories inside out. For their part, the manufacturers rely on our sales expertise, our knowledge of the market and our good dialogue with our customers." They, in turn, can be sure that they will only receive selected products of the highest quality.

Highest demands on the products

To be listed with KAPVINUM, the wineries must fulfil the strictest criteria. The top priority is the impeccable quality of all products - the range also includes high-quality, cold-pressed olive oils for fine dining - which is ensured by careful cultivation and manual harvesting. Mass production is completely avoided; instead, only the best grapes from selected boutique wineries are processed and the surplus is sustainably passed on to neighbouring wineries. The majority of the wines are stored in old French oak barrels, and many wines continue to mature in the wine cellar for 12 to 24 months after bottling. Gentle and sustainable subsequent transport plays just as important a role as social aspects: Fair working conditions are a basic prerequisite for a business relationship.
